How to back up data in the Mac OS X ver. 10.4.11

Hello friends, I have a quiet simple issue that is been recently troubling me, but I do not know how to come out it, recently I had a windows vista present in my computer. Although it was working fine for quiet a time, but when my friend gave me Mac OS X ver. 10.4.11 it started giving me problems. Also he provided me with an external hard drive to back up the data that was present in my computer, but I couldn’t do that because the external hard drive was not been able to be detected in it. Now the problem I am facing is how to backup the data in the hard drive, is the issue because of the software or the hard ware.

Before I give you any particular solution on this type of a problem, I just want to know some of the basic thing about the backup issue. The external drive that is present with you is how connector, is it connected by the USB connection or by the Fire wire, also what kind of a back up is been required by you is it the full back up system or a particular file or folder in the system. If you are going for the full back up of the system then, I would suggest you to backup the file from the program like Carbon copy clone, this help you to remove all the difficulties that are present in the process of backing up a file.

Thanks for the reply the drive which I am using is of Usb drive that is connected to the computer. The model of the hard drive is same as the model of the hard drive that is been used in the computer. Also I have noticed that the way the drive was working in the windows if not the same for the Mac. In the windows the option of formatting the disc is been present in the windows, but it is not present in the MAC operating system. Also I am trying to copy the whole system and not some particular file from the hard drive. I will use the software program as you have suggested me, I have gone through the suggestion that the people have given in the site, and they seems to be very good.

Since you are using this operating system for the first time, you are not able to remove the data from the external files. Do the following thing to format the data that is present in the hard drive, select the disk you want to format, now you should select the partition under the partition option for formatting the desired partition. For doing this try the apple partition map that is been used in the PPC Macs. Once you have done this you have to click ok button to start the formatting process of your hard drive. After the formatting is been finished then run the Carbon copy software you have downloaded and made the backup in the start of your formatting options.

You can go for the incremental backup that is done mostly for the backing up the data. The concept of the back up is very much simple, it just restore all the file which had been modified in a latest time before all the backup of the data is done, in other words it just do the replacement of the file which is been recently modified. The only disadvantage of this type of backup is it is very time consuming and a real complex structure when you see the whole thing. It is always recommended that you just have to back up the entire file that is present in the hard drive, because all the files and folder will be present in it.
