How to automatically create back-up of my data?

Hello there,I know that as the capacity of the memory has increased it has also become unreliable therefore i want a setup or a software which would help me in automatically taking back-up of my data as it is very important.I want to use 2 or more drives as my back-up drives which would contain the same data which is there on my primary drive.Any suggestions regarding the issue are welcome.

The simple solution to your problem is an External hard drive. Many people use external portable hard drives as there emergency back-up drives. There are problems using an external drives which include unreliability (since they are portable, more prone to physical damage) and other is you have to take the back-up manually which i suppose is not opted by you. But using an external drive would be the simple and cost effective solution.

There are certain hardware setups which can provide automatic backup of data. The setup is known as Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks or RAID. In this set up the data can be replicated on the array of disks. There are 6 levels of RAID which can be implemented starting from RAID 0. Different levels of RAID have there own advantages and disadvantages. Select any of the Level which suits you best and implement it.

Re: How to automatically create back-up of my data?

In RAID systems the data is mirror imaged on all the drives which means if you add a file on any of the drives it gets copied (mirror image) on all the other drives which increases data redundancy which you want but if the file is deleted (by mistake) then the file gets deleted from all the drives as well. Also the rate of failure of RAID drives is more at the lower level (RAID 0,1,2). So try implementing higher level of RAID i.e RAID 5 or RAID 6 because they have high redundancy and data loss recovery capability.

You can go for a software solution than implementing RAID which is very much unreliable. There are number of Synchronizing software's available for syncing data from PC to PC. Microsoft Active Sync is one such software which helps in synchronizing two PC's. There also some software's which can sync your data to a remote computer over Internet but the cost of it depends on the amount of data you are synchronizing.

Taking backup of the data over Internet is not a very cost effective solution also it is not safe if the data is very important. Sugar Sync provides security of the data over internet but it face's some problems like data corruption with certain types of files which is not desirable while taking back up. Microsoft Active sync can not synchronize a huge amount of data, it only synchronizes the content of "My documents" folder of the two synchronizing PC. You can make use of hard drive cloning software which creates exact replica of the hard drive or you can use a software which create virtual back-up disk on to your computer which can be restored if the system crashes.I hope this post helps.
