How can I install GDM greeter themes?

On my laptop I have Linux Mint Julia installed and I think that it is the latest one here. The login screen that I have here is not that pretty and amazing here. I just want to enhance the look of the system here and want to make the things attractive here. I have listened that there is something called as GDM greeter themes that can help me to have these look here. This is the first time that I have switched to this LINUX background and hence would like to know how I can make the installation of the things here. Any help in the matter will be really appreciated here. Please come up with some simple steps in my case so that I can have the installation in a much easy manner here. Hope that you all will come up with the replies soon.

Well you will be able to get the this GDM themes installed in a pretty handsome manner and here is the thing that you all can go with. First of all please open up the terminal and in that type gdmsetup there. As soon as you type this you will see a window opening there. After that you will be required to select Graphical greeter tab there. Then you will see a button labeled as Install New Theme; just make a click on that there. After making the click you will be required to choose *.tar.gz file. You will see a list appearing there and then from that list you will be able to choose the theme that you want by clicking on the Radio Button there. Hope that you will find the steps simple and working in your case here.

Re: How can I install GDM greeter themes?

I have read an article and let me tell you that going with the procedure of installing the GDM themes is pretty handy. As the very first step you are required to extract the archive file of the themes that you have downloaded. After getting it downloaded you will be required to install it but before that you will be required to compile it as well so that the installation can proceed without any flaw. Here is the way of doing this; you will be required to make use of the command line here. You will be required to change the directory to the location where you have extracted the file. Then run ./configure --prefix && make. After successful completion of this you will be required to go to the root directory and again run make install there. Before going with the steps here please make sure that you have all the required development packages installed so that you may not find any difficulty with the installation further.

I even have the same issue here with me and let me tell you that I had also read the same article and let me tell you that after reading it I was of the opinion that the steps will be really simple but at the time of the implementation I have seen that it is not the exact case here. I was stuck with the very basic and the first step of the command line there. I was stuck with the ./configure step. Really it does not work in my case. What can be the reason for this issue here? I even have the same Linux Mint Julia installed on my system. I will try to go with the above step there and will let you know if I was successful in getting the things in the proper way. Let me know where I was going wrong with the older procedure there.

It depends on you with what step you actually want to go with. You can definitely try to go with the second step if you wish. In addition to this I just wanted to know from where you have downloaded the package. Also please let me know what is the version of the Linux Mint Julia? Also it may be the case that you might be trying to install with the older GDM themes. The scenario here is that Julia is actually compatible with the newer version of GDM and hence it is giving m the feeling here that the older themes are not at all compatible here with your scenario. If possible try to get the latest package for GDM and give this a try again and let me get notified about the same here. The first procedure that has been given here is really going to work notify about the procedure that really helped you with the installation here. Hope to see replies soon.

Re: How can I install GDM greeter themes?

Well it seems to me that you will be required to use this site there for downloading the GDM greeter themes there. It is always advisable that you get the things from the official site and then move forward with the installation. Also let me tell you that if you have the older version of the OS there then you will be required to go with the update first and then go with the installation procedure there. Yes it is true that Linux Mint Julia will only work with the updated version of the GDM so please see this for sure. The link that I was talking about is here: http://art.gnome.org/
