ppoe dialup error while connecting through bridge ?

Hello my friends I have got a desktop of HP in which I have Windows XP service pack 3 installed in and to be precise I use it as a stand alone system. I have assigned static IP Address and Subnet mask to my router which are 192.168.1.4 and mask:255.255.255.0/gateway respectively . I have some issues in the internet, as my internet connection functions well and good, but when I try to put it in the bridge mode, the dialer connection fails with some error. Has any body got the fix to this issue then please let me know, I did do a bit of trouble shooting but could not get much help and satisfaction from it, so it would be better if you people guide me in this issue? I am ready to give provide and follow your instructions if I found them effective.

You said you could not connect it through the bridge mode , but I do not understand why do you wan to connect it through a bridge if the router is already there and is functioning very well, nevertheless it is my duty to answer your query if it is in my scope. Do you have installed any other operating system installed other than Windows xp ? You said you did a bit of troubleshooting yourself, I want to as did you ping the IP address and the subnet mask ? If yes , Was it successful ? How did you determine that the connection through the router failed ?How Please tell me the manufacturer of your motherboard.

I beg you pardon for my lack of information given to you , I am trying the system through the bridge , I recognized the error when pppoe dialer connection failed , so I got there is some issue with the bridge , Yes I ping the default gateway and Ip address but it was successful because I got the valid IP address . ASUS P5GC-MX/1333 Mother Board and I have one more operating system installed , it is GNU/Linux

That is quite appreciable, you have done a lot of trouble shooting yourself, but still you could not resolve your issue yet, so it seems the issue is quite complex, I think it is the second operating system that might be some reason for your network failure but not sure, if the Linux is working fine then there needs to be some changes done in the windows settings. Go to the Device manager, and check the drivers of the LAN card are properly installed or not, in the device manager if there is a yellow question mark then it means the drivers are missing , if there is red exclamation then it means there is some conflict between the hardware and the operating system, in both the cases you need to re install the drivers. It is also possible that the drivers are installed properly but the you have disabled them accidentally in the device manager. So do the necessary changes and let me know .
