Problem with the virus W32.Netsky.AD@mm

I have bought a new hp pavilion desktop personal computer and I am using Windows xp operating system. I like to surf on internet and make new friends through social community site. Everything was working fine, but now my personal computer is giving me problem. My personal computer is behaving in abrupt manner. When I scanned my personal computer with the online virus scanner, I found that my personal computer is infected with W32.Netsky.AD@mm virus. I want to delete this virus from my computer.

W32.Netsky.AD@mm which is detected on your computer is kind of internet worm which uses e-mail address collected from ADB, SCS, OFT, SHT, DBX, TBB, DOC, WAB, ASP, UIN, RTF, VBS, HTML, HTM, PL, PHP, TXT, and EML files. Using these email address W32.Netsky.AD@mm spread its copies to other computers. Normally this worm comes as attachment to an email message and the subject of the email and its body content is selected randomly by this worm. This worm W32.Netsky.AD@mm modifies the registry values so that it can launch every time you reboot your computer. The registry which this worm modifies is given below.

"MsnMsgr"= %WINDOWS%\MsnMsgrs.exe -alev
Once this worm executes it copies itself to windows folder with the name "MsnMsgrs.exe". This worm W32.Netsky.AD@mm also searches all the drives from C to Z and copies the itself to all the sharing folders. This worm uses its own simple mail transfer protocol (SMTP) engine to send infected messages.

Thank you for the reply I have downloaded the antivirus from the above computer and also downloaded the updates. I have installed this antivirus on my personal computer by following the instruction given in installation wizard. Now my personal computer is free from viruses, worms and Trojans. I also want to know the guide lines for safe computing. I do not want face the same situation once again.

Preventive measures and the guidelines for safe internet surfing
1. First of all ensure that you have the latest version of antivirus software installed in your computer system.
2. If you get an email from the unknown user which have files attached to it then do not download this files, because it may contain worms which can infect your computer system.
3. Update your operating system and all the application software you are using.
4. Always use the latest version of browser for surfing internet.
5. Scan all the removable media like USB, flash drive, external hard drive or cd before you open it.
6. Always enable your firewall setting.
