To complete , wake on lan function is an activation function of a machine mothballed by its receipt of a packet network card feature , so that the machine is theoretically off, but in fact maintains a minimum supply to between others performing this function . The main interest lies in the ability of remote management and provided , which allows the release outside of operations or remote configuration backup.

It helped you in the manual page 4-34 Power Menu - > APM Configuration - > Power On by PCI Device. For activating your wake on lan in the bios look you should see an option of standard or remote power something like that some times it is in the ACPI bios menu.

When your PC starts , supported on either F1 or F2 or the DEL key , it depends on the PC. Then , I can not tell you exactly which section is the ability to enable your network card . In all cases , it is under the name " LAN " , so one to one course topics , without change, with the arrows up down left right. To activate your network card , you put it highlighted, and then you click Enter, or " + " or "- " the keypad . Remember to save the settings of the Bios and changed when you leave it. There is an option that allows you to do , when you click Exit.

The first tool you need is DCCU ( Dell Client Configuration Utility ) . This program (only works with IE7, and your local settings on your pc us) allows to create a few clicks .exe files that will go change a setting in the bios of a PC . The PC must be turned on, the execution of the file is completely silent , does not cause blocking / reboot the PC on which it is running short, but happiness . In our case, I simply configured a few options : Enable WOL, and re-prioritizing the boot: hard drive first, floppy drive off ( it saves two seconds to boot the pc has everything , and it costs nothing do ) .

The second point is to ensure that this file is run on all desktops in the company , and it once ( it only takes 5-20 seconds to run , but it would make no sense to do once pc) . The way to do that I have chosen : to create one. msi ( there are plenty of free apps that make it easy : in this case, I just added a command: execute . exe files, stored on a network share ) Deployable by Group Policy in the field , which has several advantages : the . msi is designed for check- in add / remove programs , which makes it easy to ascertain via a survey tool that was setting out changed on every PC, and on which it has not yet been done. Second advantage: . msi only run once per pc: it means that we can leave the policy is active on domain forever, the new PC will automatically installed WOL activated after some time .
