I would say it is impossible to change the name in the
file, the name starts when you install Windows.

True, even if you change your user name windows, it will retain the same name as before in the Documents and Settings,, create a new user and transfer all records including in the start menu because sometimes installed programs do not create shortcuts in the All Users unfortunately.

True, the best way to proceed is as robodude explained.
It's best to create another user account or normal user or administrator, most of the time in a case like this as the main office software are installed automatically in all users, then looks in the user first installs the same software in the second, do not forget to transfer your address book, your favorites, your pictures, music, videos, anything you want to keep, then delete the old user account.

    Re: Change C drive ?

Rename the file of a user whose account name has been changed:

After name change a user's folder in 'Documents and Settings' retains the old name.

Here's how to change the name of the profile:

Imagine that the old account name checkmateUser and that his name be now User.

    0. Caution: Backup prior records and personal files before performing these manipulations.
    1. In the control panel, user accounts, rename the User account in UserTrans.
    2. Create a new account of Directors appointed AdminTrans.
    3. Creates a new administrator account named User.
    4. Log UserTrans and shelter in the User. This creates a profile (case) User in 'Documents and Settings'.

Note: NTFS in XP Pro, you must take ownership of the folder checkmateUser (right-click on the name of the User folder - Properties - Security tab - Advanced button - Tab Owners, User adds the user to the list of owners )

    5. Log User and shelter in the AdminTrans.
    6. Windows + Break to open System Properties. Under Advanced tab, click Settings in the User Profiles section, select the account UserTrans and click on "Copy To". Specifying the path to 'Documents and Settings \ User'.
    8. Close the dialog boxes and restart the computer
    9. Accommodation in the User. If everything works properly, delete the accounts UserTrans and AdminTrans. Also delete the folders' Documents and Settings \ checkmateUser 'and' Documents and Settings \ AdminTrans'

For your info, I have not tried.
