Unable to display pictures with Windows Photo Viewer

I had a problem with Windows 7 and in this when I try to open a file (tested with images in JPEG and PNG) by double clicking on the Windows Photo Viewer opens but displays the message: "Windows Photo Viewer can not open this file because the file appears damaged or corrupted, or it is too big." For cons, the thumbnail image displays well in Windows Explorer (icon and preview pane) and the image opens without problem in Paint or IE. Moreover, in the viewer, the image is also displayed in slideshow mode!

Here, I found that installing Internet Security do not like the TMP variable set to Z: \ Users \% USERNAME% \ Temp and march Z: \ Users \ Steph \ Temp. If anyone can explain why it is like this then it would be cool. The default is% USERPROFILE% \ Local \ Temp? Variables should therefore not be accepted? So please help me. And regarding this if you get any solution so please try to share it over here.

Re: Unable to display pictures with Windows Photo Viewer

After reinstalling Windows 7 x64 several times I have determined what is causing the problem. I use a separate disk for temporary files and swap. I created a directory Z: \ Users \ Steph \ Temp to receive my temporary files. For this, I define the user environment variables TMP and TEMP to Z: \ Users \% USERNAME% \ Temp% USERNAME% variable is automatically replaced. I was doing so on Windows XP x64 and Windows Vista x64 without having ever had a problem. I specify that the file has the proper permissions and other applications are able to write temporary files in it. And in this I proved that when the% TMP% (and only one) has the value Z: \ Users \% USERNAME% \ Temp, the Viewer can no longer open image. If I put the Z: \ Users \ Steph \ Temp, then it works fine. That, I think I gave all the useful info.

I have exactly the same problem with the viewer Seven (x64 too) since I made the same manipulation (which also worked fine under Vista x64). And when I want to edit the photo in Photoshop x64 directly via Windows Explorer, PS tells me that the file was not found. Thank you for your post, it allowed me to solve this problem. And regarding this if you get any solution so please try to share it over here.
