Exact OT match for PC Type1 Adobe Garamond?

I need some help in solving this small problem which I am facing. I am very new to the Adobe products and I am finding it little difficult to use. I want to replace the Adobe Garamond PC type 1 fonts on the computer which are used in the IDCS4 documents with a Open Type fonts. I want to change the fonds as I need small caps with the normal family of fonts. Also I need the exact match for font for avoiding the reflow. Any help regarding this issue are more than welcome. Thanks in advance.

I am surprised that you need to get the fonts on the new Adobe indesign CS4 as the new version has lot of fonts added to the bundle of fonts. The Adobe garamond Pro font which is included in the new indesign CS4 has regular, BOLD, Italic and BOLD Italic versions with small caps variant. Hence I think there is no need to get the font replaced by a Open Type font.

Yes I agree that the best replacement for the Adobe Garamond PC Type 1 font is Adobe Garamond Pro but it is not the exact match for it. Hence while conversion of the font file from the Type 1 to new font, some changes will be noticeable in formatting of the text. I would suggest that you read the FAQ about the font conversion before implementing it.

For getting a font family with the small caps integrated in it, you will have to search for lot of families of the font. There are many Open type font families available which have the small caps feature integrated on it but they will not provide a exact match for the Adobe Garamond PC type 1 font and will lead to the text reflow which you do not want to happen.

Re: Exact OT match for PC Type1 Adobe Garamond?

Now I have downloaded the Adobe Garamond Pro font and tried to replace the Adobe Garamond Type 1 but I am not able to replace the font on the computer. I dont want the text to reflow as it will mess up all the formatting of the document, hence I want to know how to avoid the text reflow after replacing the font? Please help.

Re: Exact OT match for PC Type1 Adobe Garamond?

I have mentioned earlier that the Adobe Garamond PRo is not the exact match for the Adobe Garamond PC type 1 font and hence it will lead to text reflow which will change the formatting of the text. The text reflow cannot be avoided as the fonts are not exact match for each other. You will have to format the document again after changing the text.
