It appears as there is some sort of problem with the itunes application which you have installed on your machine. basically i would recommend you to download and install the latest version of the iTunes on your system Other wise if you like you can upgrade it too. The upgradation will definitely solve your issue.

Thanks for the suggestion which you have made i tried to upgrade the iTune to a latest version but the newer version is also seemed to behave in the similar manner. When i connected my Ipod Nano 5 generation. It again erased my files that were present on my ipod. please tell me a way to go about it or should i dump the Ipod.

Hello everybody i also have the similar problem with muy Ipod Nano too. So i also tried the same thing but this does not even prove helpful in my case i think that this is a bug so. I think we should approach the apple customer care or drop the Ipod to the apple service center and try to get this problem solved.

The first and foremost thing which i would like to ask is that whether you have installed the newer version of the Ipod on your system or you simply upgraded the previously installed version. But it sounds as you have not installed it freshly so try to download the Itunes once again and install it on your system.

I would recommend you not to sync the Ipod with your system whenever you try to connect it automatically. Well you simply need to adjust a setting in your Itunes 9 to tell it not to sync automatically. So simply go to the iTunes Menu then select edit and then select preferences and then go to the device setting tab and check 'don't sync automatically'.
