DVD burning stopped in windows 7

I have purchased a new laptop working with windows 7. It not so old but sometime when I try to burn a video disc the burning fails in between. Because of this issue I am not using Nero it takes lot of time to burn the disc. On the other hand I have a basic CD burner. But when I do this back after some time everything goes to normal back again.
