    Computer hibernation problem

    Hey Guys,

I'm having a Compaq Presario laptop with me. When i try to turn on my system, it does seems to be getting on and it shows some computer hibernation problem? I don't know the exact problem, but can some one provide me the solution to get rid of the above issue? Any help on it would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Re: Computer hibernation problem

When you try to put your computer into a suspended or hibernation state, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

    • The computer stops responding (hangs).
    • The "Preparing to standby" message appears.
    • The mouse moves but when you click the mouse, you receive no results.
    • The computer cannot be restarted by using the CTRL+ALT+DEL keystroke.

If this does not do it, then the only other thing to try is manually removing the hibernation file. To do this you will need a DOS boot disk. You can create this in the Add/Remove Programs section of the Control Panel under the Startup Disk tab. Once you have the disk just boot the computer with it. When you arrive at the prompt change to the c:\windows\command directory and type deltree .. \vmmhiber.w9x

    Re: Computer hibernation problem

Use the following procedure to configure your computer to enable hibernation.

    1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
    2. Double-click the Power Options icon, and then click the Hibernate tab.
    3. Click to select the Enable hibernate support check box (if it is not already selected).

    • You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the administrators group to enable hibernation. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from completing this procedure.
    • Hibernation is not practical for computers that function as servers because the server must be available; hibernation makes a server unavailable.
    • The procedures described in this article are for computers that support ACPI; they are not for computers that support Advanced Power Management. The procedure for Advanced Power Management may vary because the BIOS of the computer is responsible for hibernation. Refer to your computer manual for complete instructions for this procedure.

I had a similar problem after upgrading my Sony Viao laptop from ME to Win 2000. The hibernate mode caused the computer to crash. Restarting required checking the hard drive for lost files, est. I went into power management and removed all hibernation options and it works fine now.
