    Firefox browser blocks popups, adware, and cookies. It allows specific popups though, upon your command. You can opt for Google Toolbar or Yahoo! Toolbar, or even consider installing XP Service Pack 2 and use IE6 integrated popup blocking. In my opinion, I recommend the two-fold solution of installing SP3 AND switching to Firefox.
