    SndVol32.exe

The SndVol32.exe program controls the volume settings for your system. To display this volume control, go to the Control Panel and start Sounds and Audio Devices. Go to Device volume and click Advanced.

For more information about using this control, start the program and select Help. Note that there is no way to programmatically access the functionality of this program.

This program is the native audio volume and mixer control included in Windows; it is not available for download from Microsoft. The program is typically installed in the following directory: C:\Windows\System32.

To locate this file on your system, open Windows Explorer, click the Search button, and select All files and folders. Type the file name (SndVol32.exe) into the first available line and click the Search button.but you will not find it as it is missing from your pc

here i uploaded file from my pc you can download from here

    • once you have sndvol32.exe downloaded, place it in C:WINDOWS\system323. then go to control panel, and open up "sounds and audio devices"
    • under the "volume" tab, check the bax next to where it says "Place volume icon in the taskbar"
    • click "apply" and celebrate that your volume icon is back!

Thank you for the straightforward and easy solution....

Re: SndVol32.exe Missing in Windows XP

there also another way to do it if above method is not succesful

To extract a copy of the Sndvol32.exe file from the Windows XP CD and save it on your computer’s hard disk, follow these steps:

    1. Insert the Windows XP CD into your computer's CD drive or DVD drive. Press and hold the SHIFT key as you insert the CD to prevent it from starting automatically.

    2. Click Start, and then click Run.

    3. Copy and paste or type the following command in the Open box, and then click OK:

      cmd
    4. The command prompt opens.

    5. Type the drive letter of the CD drive or DVD drive, type a colon, and then press ENTER. For example, if your computer’s CD drive is drive E, type the following, and then press ENTER:
      e:
    6. Copy and paste or type the following, and then press ENTER:
      cd i386
    7. Copy and paste or type the following, and then press ENTER:
      expand sndvol32.ex_ system_root\system32\sndvol32.exe

Note system_root is the path and folder name where the Windows system files are located on your computer. This is usually C:\Windows. If the folder that contains the Windows system files on your computer is C:\Windows, type the following, and then press ENTER:
      expand sndvol32.ex_ c:\windows\system32\sndvol32.exe

Note There is a space between "ex_" and "c:\windows" in this command.
    8. Type exit to exit the command prompt, and then press ENTER.

    9. Verify that you can start Volume Control and that the Volume icon is displayed in the notification area (if you selected this option in method 1).

    10. If the Volume icon is displayed in the notification area, you are finished. If the Volume icon is not displayed in the notification area, go to the "Next steps" section.

Hey currently there are some sort of attachment problem on Techarena website, due to which you are unable to download that particular file on your pc. You just need to check out the following link. It's the official Microsoft website. Hope so it might resolve your above issue.

Re: SndVol32.exe Missing in Windows XP

I followed the... Copy and paste or type the following, and then press ENTER:
expand sndvol32.ex_ system_root\system32\sndvol32.exe method and it said...
    Can't open input file: sndvol32.ex_
I tried the winrar extraction and it wouldn't let me click the... Winrar link... It went to a blank page and stayed there.
Also, another important thing. Windows cannot display the volume control on the taskbar because the volume control program has not been installed. I can hear out of my speakers, but I cannot talk into vent. I am trying to talk into my mic so people can hear me in vent.

I think that this would should better work for you, the above one should also work but due to some unconditional issue this is not working. Try the link that I have given below
You would need a Winzip or WinRar to extract the file, (You can also use Pea zip if you are a open source kind of a guy ), and remember to extract it to C:\Windows\System32 file directory.
