Vista systematically seeks to generate thumbnails of files and folders that poster. It's very visual and easy on a powerful desktop machine, but this feature is not only unbearably slow on older machines and laptops, but also over-consuming memory and energy. Under Vista, the browser generates miniature not only on the pictures and videos, but also on office documents and files! The process of generating such labels requires the system to load the documents to generate thumbnails that will cache, a slow process, consumer resources and tends to impose a deplorable overactivity of the disc for our PC batteries laptops.
On older computers and mobile PCs, it is advisable to disable this systematic display miniatures. A very simple:
- Open the Start menu of Vista
- In the search box, enter "Folder Options" and confirm by pressing [Enter]
- Open the View tab of the Folder Options box
- At the bottom of the Advanced Settings list, select the "Always show icons, never thumbnails"
- Click Apply and then click OK.
