    Unable to open Personal.xlsb file

This morning, while opening Excel, I noticed that my macros are not working. Looking a bit, I noticed that it is not because I can not access the file Personal.xlsb. I have, to my knowledge, done nothing to change that and the file is still located in the directory C:\Documents and Settings\XXX\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART\Personal.xlsb. So I seems to me that its normal. I opened the file manually and it does not look corrupted. And I voluntarily changed nothing on my pc yesterday, and it was working perfectly. Does anyone know why Personal.xlsb no longer opens on its own?

You problem seems to be weird and appear new to me. However if you still ask me for some solution then I would say: did you tried to Diagnose and repair Microsoft Office. To do so, click on Office button, select Excel Options, then Resources and then finally click on Diagnose.

Re: Unable to open Personal.xlsb file

I did not tried that but I just tested it and found no problem. If I go through windows explorer, I find I can open it. So I presume that access must be good. But when I wanted to use my macros, the first thing I noticed is that I did not have them because I did not open personal. But I can go in manually, so the file is not corrupt and I have access. The question is why is it that the file opened automatically, in hidden, will not open to even when I open excel and how I can REMEDY this? Temporarily, I'm at shortcut to the file, but it was more convenient when he opened his own.

I did not tested it, so it's unknown to me. If you place another Excel file in the same file, does it opens Excel?

It opens basic visibility, if I hide and I leave it to backup hidden. But, do not open it in the more traditional blank Excel document (whether hidden or not). If I delete my test file, although I reopens the blank base but still can not open my personal.

Personally, I do not see what setting is required for files in the XLSTART. Basically, any file within a folder is opened when Excel starts, this file is visible or not. Personal.xlsb file that is created by Excel when the information first to create a macro is set Visible = False in Excel, but to my knowledge the only parameter.

Re: Unable to open Personal.xlsb file

I had the same problem on one of my computers - Excel 2007 under XP Pro.
When I opened the personal.xlsb file by right-clicking on the file in windows explorer I got the message Excel could not open the file because it had errors and needed to be repaired. After I accepted Excel's repair and examined the file in the VBE I found it had a missing reference error. The file it was trying to reference was no longer available.
I cleared the missing reference error, compiled the personal.xlsb and saved the file and closed Excel. However, when I opened Excel the personal.xlsb was not opened.
Inspection of the file modification info in windows explorer showed the personal.xlsb was not changed when I "saved" it from VBE.
I then replaced the personal.xlsb with a copy from another computer and everything worked as expected.
On a similar note, I have noticed when opening workbooks from within a macro Excel has a tendency to ignore workbooks which have "unreadable content" without bothering to report the problem.
