Android, originally based on a Linux kernel and supported by 84 hardware and software partners as part of the Open Handset Alliance, was initially designed to be the next open wireless standard. Google assumed-rightly-that if they were able to achieve a consensus in the industry, have fewer compatibility problems, more sales, and a much greater chance of long-term success. Well, one of three is not bad.

Regularly, new projects trying to mount a new platform open source Mobile Linux can affect various sectors of the mobile connected to the TV, take shape but struggling to exist in time, without the support of industry.

Currently, only Android, despite its open source limited to certain items, was able to succeed at the game and has the potential to spread beyond its sphere mobile home, just with the help of many partners.

LiMo is like open-source Android software, including a copy of the Android handset Alliance.
There are also many LiMo handsets announced. Among other Morotola, NEC, Panasonic, and LG. I have just been notified that Samsung this year with a LiMo toes will get beat. Android, eat your heart out, because with this wide range of devices they make many of their current backlog ahead.

In the field of Android seems more apparent what the state of development and that is really good progress. This could be a decisive advantage. Both Samsung and Motorola were part of the LiMo Foundation and also joined the OHA. Maybe the two companies would see better opportunities in Android, soon to be able to offer truly marketable models. Nevertheless, the LiMo Foundation gains new support.

To put in a position to comment that both systems are based on the Linux platform are open source, and both will be fighting in a few months for a piece of the market for operating systems on portable devices. But they are so similar systems as initially could arise LiMo is focusing on developing the guts of what could be a operating system, so users do not really see, giving less importance to the interface, which is largely the responsibility of the developers. Android however is a system that could catalog of complete, with all its layers defined from the core, passing through different controllers, the standard user interface and many applications.

There is no doubt that if we were to compare the popularity of the contestants, Android would win by KO, Google knows how to promote your products, do things well and is very easy to find news and support on Android. However, LiMo captures little news, or have large communities of fans. For these reasons, I believe that Android ended up with a good chunk of the market for portable operating systems.

Re: Will Linux Mobile (LiMo) going to be the new Android

The basis of the LiMo operating system is Linux, which run different components that provide services such as SMS, MMS, Internet and video telephony. The interface framework is based on GTK +, which is also used for the GNOME distribution.

Besides the ability to run native applications for LiMo provides a Java SDK. Additionally there is support for widget-like applications on the Webkit engine to run. Google Android on the other hand only supports Java applications. In contrast, the LiMo platform will probably be fragmented, because the manufacturers of mobile phones have more control over features that are supported. Anyway it seems that Linux in the coming years will make a considerable advance on the mobile phone market.

Whether Android or Limo's, which means a big push towards Linux based systems. With such actions, Linux would ever rise from the small margin.

I expect the Linux variants may contribute significantly to be able to transfer files etc. Provided they have a reasonable share of the marketplace. Both Microsoft and Apple have no need to use a competing format to exchange files or compatible. Since Linux is OSS, this hand in hand with open standards.

I think in future both should be consider as major mobile platform. There is a firm reason behind this. As you are looking Android is growing and updating with unbelievable speed. There is no chance that it could break it pace. On the other hand LiMo is slightly making it debug on the market, sighted on numerous platform, not only mobile but also on portable devices. So distinguishing both is a quite a difficult task.
