Toshiba Satellite A200 randomly power off when enabling Execute-Disable Bit in BIOS

hi, I am using Toshiba Satellite A200 laptop in which I am having very immersive problem as whenever I try to enable Execute-Disable Bit in BIOS it just keeps turning off on its own, as I haven’t done it ever before thus I am not sure from when this is happening.

Let me tell you as currently I am using version 2.6 BIOS in the machine, so whether it is the most recent one, or shall I download another one? The version that I had installed in the machine is compatible with my laptop ?

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

the feature of the BIOS that you have mentioned is either not supported by the motherboard you are using, or simply your motherboard is not capable of setting this up.

Are you sure that the motherboard you are using has this functionality, because then only it would be worth to install 2.6 version BIOS and try to set such a feature, otherwise it is just worthless.

But stll it would be better if you specify which OS version that you are running, like Vista 32bit or any other, which is what I consider your system initially came with. And, given your BIOS update version, the Operating system I suppose you are still running.

primary, attempt a system reset. Power off the laptop and unplug the whole thing counting the AC, eliminate the battery, push and hold down the power on button for 30 seconds, put back battery and AC, power on, and while you start the machine, at the Toshiba logo press the 'F2' key to enter BIOS Setup.

As soon as the setup window appears you have to depress 'F9' to load setup defaults, next press 'F10' to save an exit, after that off course rebooting into Windows is necessary and then test your system.

If the system reset does not work, have you newly installed any updates, added several fresh software, changed drivers, etc, that you can associate in time to while this problem started occurring? If so, you could go into 'System Restore' and observe if you have a 'restore point' just prior to while the problem started to occur, and return your system to that point of mode.

reinstallation of BIOS would surely fix this, because it clearly seems that there is corruption in the BIOS.

exactly, I would say you have got it correctly as the BIOS version that you have installed in your machine is not compatible, and that is why you are having such a problem with it.

Thus I would suggest you the same as whatever you are planning to do, as you should get another BIOS version for your machine, you can check the official website of your motherboard manufacturer because from there only you’ll get some precise information about the latest BIOS. And off course from there only you can test the compatibility with the hardware you have before installing it in the machine.

But broadly it doesn’t happens as if we download the BIOS from the motherboard manufacturer’s site and is not compatible with the machine.

See as you have mentioned that you haven’t done it ever before thus I would like to suggest you that you should try to hire any good computer engineer for the same and let him do this for your computer.

But if suppose you are willing to do it on your own, you can visit the LINK mentioned.

but after doing BIOS updates, on the first reboot or power up, it needs that you enter the BIOS Setup, load the setup defaults, save those settings, and then exit. Because if you just forget to do this the BIOS update will normally go on the settings in your old BIOS version.
