iPAQ 211 battery charge stops at 90%

My elder cousin gifted me HP iPAQ 211 Enterprise handheld device as my birthday present. The performance is quite impressive and Windows mobile 6.0 OS platform is a good advantage for people like me who have been using windows from such a long period of time. Although it has started showing few troubles in recent times. When I am put my handset on charge everything seems to be working well, but the battery never shows full 100% charge. The charging sign is always stuck to 90%, no matter I put iPAQ 211 for charging even for an entire day. And it seems that the percentage will keep on decreasing in future. Please help me with your suggestions.

I would recommend you to perform a soft reset in your iPAQ 211 Enterprise handheld device. You can do so by following the below few steps:
    • Search for the recessed Reset button which you can find on the right side of the device.
    • You can use any soft but pointed device to press the Reset button.
    • You can also use the stylus which is available with your device to lightly press the Reset button.
    • This will force your iPAQ to restart and then display the Today screen.

If the Soft Reset is not solving your issue than I would suggest you to perform Hard Reset in your HP iPAQ 211 device. You just need to go through the following:
    • Press and hold the Record, Start/Windows, OK buttons at the same time and then with the help of stylus, you need to press and release the Reset button.
    • Continue to press and hold the Record, Start/Windows, and OK buttons.
    • Your mobile will prompt a Clean Boot message displays which will indicate that restoration of factory settings on your device has occurred successfully.

You need to reinstall all the application which were pre-installed in your device after you have performed a hard reset. For this purpose you need to use the Microsoft ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) on your computer. ActiveSync 4.5 (or any later version) is required if the Host PC is running Microsoft Windows XP or 2000 system, whereas you will require WMDC if the Host PC is running Microsoft Windows Vista.
    1. For ActiveSync users: go to: Tools > Add/Remove Programs and then select any programs you want to reinstall.
    2. For WMDC users: When the device is not synchronizing, select Programs and Services > Add/Remove Programs. Then select the programs which you wish to reinstall in your device. Finally click on OK button.

According to me there is some kind of software issues with your device. So I would recommend you to update your device ROM. Follow the below steps to do so:
    1. Visit the HP website and the go to the update section and locate the iPAQ 211 device updates.
    2. Select the update file and download the latest available version of ROM update to your computer.
    3. Sync your iPAQ 211 device with your computer using ActiveSync connection if using Windows XP OS or WMDC for Windows 7 OS. Use USB cable to build the connection. The computer will automatically sync the device.
    4. Once the sync is completed, disconnect the device from your computer.

For more detailed help, I would recommend you to go through the following HP website - How to Install a ROM Update on the iPAQ

You should make sure that following points are taken into consideration while you are performing software update of your HP iPAQ device.
    • Make sure that you have disabled the Standby and Hibernation modes on your Host PC/Notebook because if they are activated then you might get stuck in between critical problems.
    • Have patience while you are performing update as it will usually take time to get the work completed.
    • Do not interact with the iPAQ or remove it from AC power or the cradle/cable once the status bar appears on the iPAQ and the actual update has started.
    • If an error message is prompted at the time of updating, follow any of the available instructions to correct the condition rather then ignoring the issue and start the ROM Update Utility again.
    • It is recommended to remove the SIM card before updating the device.

I am still surprised nobody suggested you to send your iPAQ for checking and if detected any problem then repairing. You can either submit the device to the store from where you purchased it or for better result and fast service the HP Service centre. The tech staff will surely be able to rectify the exact problem with your iPAQ handset and thus will be able to solve it with the proper solution depending on the severity of problem.
