iPod problem backing up

When I backup my iPod touch 3G it will start updating but then it gets about 8/10 (4/5) almost done is my point, and then it gives error message "iTunes could not back up iPod "iPod name" because the backup could not be saved on the computer." I've deleted all the old backups and nothing has worked HELP PLEASE
