I am using Lenovo Thinkpad X201 which I had purchased a week before. I am having a old Dlink router which I was using on my desktop system. It is wireless router and I was suing the same on my desktop via wireless adapter. I want to enable the same on my Thinkpad X201. So I need some help hyere regard the compatibility of my old router to this new one. Does it is compatible and how does a wifi network work. It is written some 802.11n support on the laptop.

I connected the network cable to the router and then connected the router to my pc. Search for the network on the laptop and you can see the signal strenght on the system tray. All you need is to configure the router properly on the laptop and other work will be done by Windows itself. Set your system settings to default and then check back. If still it is not working then you will have to connected a wired cable.

If something comes out of the wall connects to your network card for now, a wireless router that would normally go over the wall to the WAN. To establish a direct wired connection to the computer of a new RJ45 Ethernet cable ends connected to one catch LAN router to the LAN card of the computer terminates the connection. I think what you have is a wireless ADSL router and you can not plug the ADSL end because you do not have a broadband service.

Yes, backwards compatibility is assured but the old equipment to work when their respective maximum speeds, or 11Mbps for 802.11a and 50 Mbps for 802.11g. You can use older routers on your laptop also. If you have made a network then just plug on the wifi switch and let Windows find the network. It will autodetect that and you can start surfing internet.

The major networks manufacturers (Belkin, D-Link, Netgear, Linksys) are now selling access points, routers, USB adapters and network cards may be compatible with 802.11n. A USB adapter has the advantage of being able to connect to a laptop which is impossible with a network card. Note however that if you bought a laptop since 2008, it is probably equipped with the Centrino 2 platform from Intel. If so, you can switch between USB adapter on your laptop, it already has a chip Wi-Fi 802.11n.

Wi-Fi can be shared between multiple users of the same dwelling. Therefore, we are left with 10 Mbps instead offered by user. On the other hand local network, ie to exchange information within a home between two computers or more, the greater the speed, the faster rise in the exchange. If you want to share photos, send video from one position to another then 50-100 Mbit / s is more than enough.

The 802.11n Wi-Fi has been ratified by the IEEE certification body. This standard allows wireless networks to reach theoretical speeds of up to 300 Mbps, a data transfer rate 6 times faster than standard 802.11g Wi-Fi networks used by most Current Wi-Fi (50 Mbps theoretical). However, this new standard does not change the quality of signal transmission and thus receiving the Wi-Fi When the client PC receives a signal, it can transmit and receive information faster.
