Toshiba satellite M40x does not boot

Hello there, I have a Toshiba satellite m40x laptop which is installed with Windows XP operating system on it. The laptop was working fine but from few days I am not able to start the laptop. Whenever I try to start the laptop by pressing the power button, all the LED's on the laptop glow and Fan also starts rotating but the laptop does not start. This happens everytime I press the power button. I cant figure out why my Toshiba satellite M40x does not boot and hence need your help in solving the issue. Any suggestions/solutions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

I think the battery of the laptop has drained out of charge due to which the laptop is not able to start. If the battery is not having enough charge in it then it will not be able to provide enough power to the laptop to start. Remove the battery and check the voltage across the battery using DMM. Check the voltage which is specified on the battery. If the voltage is far more less than the voltage specified then try charging the battery. Let the battery charge for about 3 hours and connect it again to the laptop. Check if the laptop starts.

I suspect that the system RAM chip on the computer has gone bad and hence you are not able to boot the laptop. If the RAM chip has gone bad then it wont be accessible to the system. If the RAM chip is not accessible to the system then it wont be able to boot the operating system. Therefore open the laptop and then remove the RAM chips. Clean the connecting terminals of the RAM and then connect the RAM again in the slot. Check if the system is booting or not. If the system still does not boot then you will have to replace the RAM chips.

Check if the battery on the motherboard is having enough charge on it. There is a battery (button cell) which is located on the motherboard of the computer. This battery helps the BIOS in saving the settings. Open the laptop and locate the battery. Remove the battery from the motherboard. Check the voltage across the battery using Digital multimeter. The voltage across the battery should be around 2.5 to 3 volts. If the voltage across the battery is below 2.5 volts then you will have to replace the battery. Check if the laptop boots when the battery is replaced.

All the laptops face the problem of residual charge. In laptops Residual charge gets stored near the RAM chips. If such a situation occurs then the system is not able to access the system Ram. Ram is used to store all the files which are required for the operating system to boot. If the RAM chip is not accessible then the system will not be able to copy the required files to the RAM and hence will not be able to boot the operating system. To remove the residual charge, Shut down the laptop and then disconnect it from all the power sources. Remove the battery. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds and then replace the battery. Try starting the laptop and see if it works.

Motherboard of the computer is a very important part of the computer. All the functions which are carried out by the computer are controlled by the motherboard. If the motherboard itself is faulty then the computer is bound to give problems while working. Therefore get the motherboard of the laptop checked by some technician. If the motherboard is faulty then you will have no other option than to replace it so that the computer works properly.

I just finished solving this kind of problem with the same laptop myself. My LEDs were flashing, fan spins, but no CPU activity at all ( no heat after a few minutes).
What I did was disassemble the laptop, and took a look at the power jack. The positive part had bad contact with the motherboard. I just resoldered and it came back to life

I used this guide to open the laptop: Disassembling Toshiba Satellite M35X or Satellite M30X laptop

The m40x is similar to the m35x, but the process is exactly the same

oh, if it still doesnt work, then either another part of the motherboard has a problem, or you need to get a new power jack
