    Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot

Well, Sony Ericsson have been covering this one up until now. Their uber cameraphone is finally in the wild with all the sweet details. The Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot codenamed Shiho is an 8 megapixel shooter and believe us when we say this - this one is not a mock up, we've seen it live with our very own eyes.

The Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot comes with an 8 mega pixel camera. C905 Cyber-shot packs auto focus (but you already knew that), face detection, image stabilization and both a xenon and a photo flash (this one's for video), as well as a nice new feature called Smart Contrast. another 8 megapixel camera (a Canon PowerShot SD1100 one). While images from the Canon are marginally better than the ones from the C905, the image quality on the C905 is an order of magnitude better than just about all the other camera phones out in the market. The face detection feature lets you easily focus on the subject, while photo fix lets you adjust contrast and light balance after you’ve shot the picture.

When the slider of The Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot is closed, you can do a few things, including look up the recent call list (called, received and missed calls), from where you can call any of those numbers. You do this the usual way - by pressing the Call Answer key.The Sony Ericsson C905 also comes with a shortcut button that lets you see new phone events (text messages, call alerts), switch between multiple running applications (yes - there is multitasking support), a list of quick shortcuts for the most commonly used applications, WiFi/Bluetooth connectivity and so on, and finally for web access. I realized that I spent quite a bit of my time with the shortcut key - and it is useful without having to slide out the keypad each time. That said, when you want to send text messages or access other installed tools and applications, you will have to slide out the keypad.

The C905 photos can be geotagged thanks to the built-in GPS receiver. The accelerometer will allow for screen auto rotation when you go through your camera album. It's also got a TV-out port for watching your images on the TV.

The Sony Ericsson C905 is also armed with a 2.4-inch QVGA TFT display with scratch-resistant mineral glass cover. It's the first Sony Ericsson feature phone to feature Wi-Fi support - and there's even more. The Wi-Fi feature supports DLNA, which is basically a wireless media sharing protocol that runs on top of Wi-Fi. Nokia N96 has it too by the way.

The Sony Ericsson C905 is a worthwhile investment. It sucks that the phone is not available subsidized here in the US, but you can buy it unlocked (see below for details). The phone has a wonderful scratch-resistant screen, impressive 8 megapixel camera and comes equipped with a 2GB memory stick.

    Re: Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot

Sony Ericsson provides its PC Suite software for syncing data between your phone and computer. The software is easy to use, but I wouldn’t call it dead easy - that’s something that can be improved. The Media Manager, on the other hand, is much easier - drag and drop stuff that the average 6 year old can handle.

It's an impressive feat - and certainly heralds the future of device networking - but unless you have a PS3 or one of the very latest HDTVs it probably won't be a selling point this year. But it's nice to know that the C905 is prepared for the time the future finally plonks itself down in our living rooms.

Overall then, the Sony Ericsson C905 is a very impressive looking mobile phone. Sony Ericsson has addressed most of the issues with the K850i and come up with a phone that feels good in the hand and does all the standard phone things well, but also boasts the highest specced camera on the market.

The Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot is somewhere in the line of 104 x 49 x 18 (or 19.5) millimetres and weighs good 136 grams. It'll be available in Copper Gold, Ice Silver & Night Black in early Q4 2008 with a bundled 2 GB Memory Stick Micro M2.

Connectivity wise, it comes in three variants, two with full support for UMTS and HSDPA for the respective regions (yes, the Americas too). The battery is good for 380 hours of standby or 9 hours of talk on GSM networks, or 360 hours of standby or 4 hours of talk on 3G networks.

The Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot is estimated will cost $199 to $249 after contract.

A less spec'd out version of this came out a bit ago here in Japan. It is fully half-camera/half-phone. A great idea for this place where people take wedding pictures with their phones
