Need help to overclock E8400 on ASUS P5Q Pro

Does not have the time somewhat since the end of 90 century and need a very basic manual or step by step explanation on how I can clock my CPU to like 3.4 GHz. Need basically a list of all settings in the bios.

    Have E8400/ASUS P5Q Pro with TWIN2X Corsair DDR2 4096MB (2 x 2048 MB) CL5

I'm noob and sit with the same configuration and CPU .. and has not overclocked yet, so we could collaborate a little

I had to purchase a new CPU fan to keep temperature down .. on standard clocks, I sat with 45c idle temp and 65 at max load via Intel burn test .. which is maximum in my eyes .. I bought "Noctua NH-C12P" .. this cooler is very good, and is less than 10 cm high (I have a narrow cabinet) and it is almost silent .. recommended if it would be necessary ..

have tried some different approaches, from bios, and not met on the instability currently ..

Experiment 1 was to increase the FSB with the CPU multiplier at 9x .. I came without any problems up to 422 FSB, 3.8 GHz CPU, with an acceptable temperature .. but that said buy a new fan, so this will be of no help to you..

Experiment 2 was to run the ram in 1:1 frequency with almost 3.8 GHz CPU, which should have performance advantages in memory if I have not understood a little miss .. running this now under prime for 4 hours without instability ..

start with only overclock FSB and CPU, when these are stable, you can test like memory and stuff ... easiest this way ..

    --------
    step-by-step in the bios:

    # General Setting:
1 - set "overclock tuner" to manual
2 - set "dram frequency" to NOT-overclock frequency of your memory. and not still on the timing's even .. shall only overclock cpu
3 - Set "PCIe frequency" to 100mhz, so you do not harm video card, etc..
4 - Set "CPU voltage" to 1224 or slightly more .. I run this now, 2.8 GHz and stable as if.. but unsure if this is a low or high value, and if perhaps too low?
5 - Set "dram voltage" to the voltage of your memory chips are made for ..
6 - turn off the "disable" these functions (power saving and diverse that you do not have use for now .. getting recommended in various guides about overclocking)
    - Cpu spread spectrum
(the below is in "advanced menu" -> "cpu config")
    - Intel C1E support
    - Max cpuid value limit
    - Intel speed step
    - And the rest can be left on, or "auto"

    -------
    Experiment # 1: 3.8 GHz (9x multiplier)
1 - Set "CPU ratio" to 9.0 (standard)
    2 - set "FSB frequency" to 422

    Experiment # 2: 3.8 GHz (7.5 x multiplier, 1:1 ram / FSB)
1 - Set "CPU ratio" to 7.5 (depending on what frequencies your memory is running?)
2 - set "FSB frequency" to 500 (depending on what frequencies your memory is running?)

    # Your first attempt? : 3.4 Ghz (9x miltiplier)
1 - Set "CPU ratio" to 9.0 (standard)
    2 - set "FSB frequency" to 377

Thanks, will try some. But the CPU ratio thing should not get changed, enter a number there and press enter then pop it back to AUTO. Why?

Cool, now running at 3.4 GHz with your settings. Will see if I can find something ideal for 3.6 GHz. I will get switched cooler. Have only stock cooler on the CPU but the cabinet is brilliant with the two big fans, one is directly connected to the CPU. Have all clockwise graphics card and increased 3Dmark06 results with over 1000 points.

I am so far happy with this PC for my game that consists of the entire Call of Duty series. Running everything on max in 1920x1080 resolution without problems. Has around 90 FPS
