Mac Snow leopard installer.app is not working

I have apple computer running Snow leopard. Recently I have got the problem about the installer application. I tried to install .pfg file and it is also known as installer app. But it won’t work at all. I double clicked the package file for installation. The installer.app opens fairly and shuts down automatically without any response. What is the problem with installer application? Should I try it using other way?

The installer.app is located in /System/Administration which handles the installation process of Mac OS. This app or file installs the group of files which we also called as packages. These packages should contain .pkg and .mpkg extension. The .pkg includes single package and the .mpkg includes multiple package. So before starting the installation file check that the package file is corrupted or not. May be the package is very bad and the system antivirus is blocking it from installing.

If the installer is not launching the installation process then there might be a chance that the installer.app file is missing from your mac. First figure that the present of this file. If it is not available or corrupted then download the file from the internet. Without this app you cannot able to do any installation. If the file is present on system directory, then disable the antivirus or firewall protection before launching the installer. These programs sometime will not allow you to install the unsecured packages.

If you had used the XSlimmer or similar type of program before on your apple Mac, then it is not possible to launch the installer. For that you will have to reinstall the Mac OS again in case you want get the working installer.app. I don’t know what is the reason related to XSlimmer and installer.app. but I heard this from several mac users. In case you GUI installer is not working then open the command line interface and run the installer from terminal.app. Some situation the CLI works 110% better than the GUI.

If you are getting the kind of trouble then reading the system log will become helpful to understand the issue. You can check its file located in var/log/system.log. Once I had the similar problem I noticed that the SIMBL.osax file is located in more than one place in my Mac. So I moved that file to safe place. After that everything works fine as I expected. You can locate this file in /Library/ScriptingAdditions/SIMBL.osax. I hope that your system also contain two SIMBL.osax file on same location. If it is true then place the File in other folder. Don’t ever think about to delete it because haven’t done that and I don’t know what will happen to system if I delete it. If possible update the installer.app file.
