The registry is a database used to store the configuration of Windows. To optimize or customize your computer, you may need to edit the registry. It is essential to back up the registry before any changes you intend to achieve. Indeed, one mistake can quickly turn into a nightmare. To save the registry just follow these simple steps:-

    1. Run the Registry Editor by clicking Start then Run.
    2. In the Open box, type regedit and click OK.
    3. The registry editor opens. If you want to save only some keys and subkeys, scroll keys to the export location. If you want to save the entire registry, no matter where you are.
    4. Click the File menu and click Export.
    5. In the window that appears, select the backup location. Give the file a name: registre0727.reg in our example (allow approximately 70 MB for the entire registry).
    6. Under the heading Export Range, select All to save the entire Registry or the Selected branch option to export only the key and subkeys of the selected location.
    7. Then click the Save button

Thats it.. A few seconds later, the hand you made the backup is performed. Anyway, check on your hard drive as the backup has been created (reg file format).

Windows registry contains information and settings for different hardware, software, user preferences and your PC. Thus, whenever you change a parameter in a module in the Control Panel or you install software, the changes are reflected and stored in the registry. The backup of the registry can be accomplished simply by exporting the key which you will work directly or by exporting the entire registry to a full backup.
