How to save the registry in XP

Hi, i am sorry if making duplication for this title but i am new to Windows Xp and hence need some urgent help from you all guys regarding Windows XP Registry. Actually due to some reason, i need to make some changes in my system's registry and as suggested by my friends i need to save the registry before making any changes to the same to prevent any loss. Could you guys please make me know how to save registry in Windows XP ? Thanks for all your help.

The registry is a database used to store the configuration of Windows. To optimize or customize your computer, you may need to edit the registry. It is essential to back up the registry before any changes you intend to achieve. Indeed, one mistake can quickly turn into a nightmare. To save the registry just follow these simple steps:-

1. Run the Registry Editor by clicking Start then Run.
2. In the Open box, type regedit and click OK.
3. The registry editor opens.If you want to save only some keys and subkeys, scroll keys to the export location. If you want to save the entire registry, no matter where you are.
4. Click the File menu and click Export.
5. In the window that appears, select the backup location. Give the file a name: registre0727.reg in our example (allow approximately 70 MB for the entire registry).
6. Under the heading Export Range, select All to save the entire Registry or the Selected branch option to export only the key and subkeys of the selected location.
7. Then click the Save button

Thats it.. A few seconds later, the hand you made the backup is performed. Anyway, check on your hard drive as the backup has been created (reg file format).

You can also save your windows registry in these four simple steps:-

1. Click Start, click Run, type %SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe, and then click OK.
2. On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Create a restore point, and then click Next .
3. On the Create a Restore Point page, type a name for the restore point and then click Create
4. After the restore point has been created, click Close.

Restoring the registry is required when you have erred by modifying the registry and your system has become unstable or error messages appear. To restore back your windows registry, just go through these steps:-

1. In Windows Explorer, go to the folder where you store the backup registry.
2. Click the right mouse button on the reg file created earlier. In the menu that appears, choose Merge.
3. A dialog box will appear asking you if you are sure you want to add the information contained in this file to the registry. Click Yes to confirm.
4. A message warns you when the success of the operation. Click OK. Your registry backup is restored. Restart your computer to take into account the changes you just made.

You can use System Restore to undo registry changes in in Windows XP. here is how to do that:-

• Click Start, click Run, type %SystemRoot%\System32\Restore\Rstrui.exe, and then click OK.
• On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Restore my computer to an earlier time (if it is not already selected), and then click Next .
• On the Select a Restore Point page, click the system checkpoint. In the On this list select the restore point area, click an entry that is named "Guided Help (Registry Backup)," and then click Next. If a System Restore message appears that lists configuration changes that System Restore will make, click OK.
• On the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, click Next. System Restore restores the previous Windows XP configuration and then restarts the computer.
• Log on to the computer. When the System Restore confirmation page appears, click OK..
