To help protect your computer windows has closed this program

    Hi,

Form last 2 days, I am observing a strange error on my pc. When ever I open any folder containing video file, the computer tries to give me thumbnail view of the files and also have a "my computer" explorer window open, I can close that window without an error. However, if I then close "my documents" I get the error message, "To help protect your computer windows has closed this program". Any input with regard to what's going on here?

Microsoft Windows XP SP2 uses the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) feature to help prevent damage from viruses and from other security threats.

In Control Panel switch to classic View and then click on System,
Then click on Advance System settings on the left hand side.
Then click on the Advance Tab, then where it says Performance, click on settings. The Data Execution Prevention tab is on the top right.

This one you can do for Windows XP
1- Go to Start menu and right-click on My Computer.
2- Choose "Properties" from the context menu.
3- In the "System Properties" sheet, click the "Advanced" tab .
4- In the "Performance" section, click the "Settings" button
5- Next, click the tab "Data Execution Prevention".

You ran a program which attempted to modify or replace a protected file. DEP prevented this action and shut down the offending program.. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Go to Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl, and then click OK.
    2. Click on Advanced tab, click Performance, and then click Settings.
    3. Under Performance Options, click the Data Execution Prevention tab, and then click Add.
    4. In the Open dialog box, locate and then click the program.
    5. Click Open, click Apply, and then click OK. When you are prompted to restart your computer, click OK.
