error 0x80240022 windows security essentials on vista

I purchased the a HP computer which has AMD Phenom 9500 Quad-Core Processor .and 4 GB of Ram and which is running under Windows Vista. I am using the McAfee from when I bought the computer but last month it stopped working properly and says that the real time scanning is disabled. I am also not able to run the scan and not able to update the software. Therefore I removed the McAfee from my system and I decided to try windows security essentials. I installed that without any problem but when I started the initial update then it shows me some error code 0x80240022 and it shows me that the real time protector is off. Do you have any clue for this problem? I think the problem is there in the settings but I don’t know the exact problem with that.

Which service pack do you have? Is this Vista SP1 or Vista SP2. Have you tried reinstalling the McAfee Antivirus on your system? It would have solved your problem. Before doing re installation to your antivirus you should download and run McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool. If you want to do that than you can down load the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool from here. It is a 1.3 MB file and can be downloaded in seconds. Run this on your computer and after that try to reinstall the antivirus. This will help you to install the antivirus properly.

Do you have any other antivirus installed on your computer? I am asking this to you because if that is the case then I would like to tell you that if you have more then one antivirus installed on the same computer at the same time then one may conflict the functionality of the other software and none of them will work properly. It will also leads to slow down the processing of the computer. Uninstall the other antivirus software from your computer if you have any and then try to update that.

There may be problem with the installed windows security essentials in your computer. Some of the files from it may be corrupted and you have to correct that file. The simplest way to do that is to uninstall the existing windows security essentials from your computer and download the new setup from internet. Install that to your computer and this will create totally new files for it and I think the updating problem with it can be solved. This will be the best option for you if the problem is with the corrupted files. Just try this and see the results.
