I have a Dell laptop on which i had installed Mac operating system. I'm having issue with authenticating to HP MediaSmart Server from the Mac. When i try to install HP MediaSmart Server Control Center on MAC, i'm unable to put the Server Name and Password and it says its authenticated; and after that you are not able to do anything. I am not sure what you are looking for but, if you get the authenticated Green light you are connected. he Server has to be configured first using a Windows Client. Once the Windows Home Server Connector has been installed you can install the Features for the Mac. You can then click on the top of the tab, the back up tab and set up time machine. Other than the green light there is no other confirmation.

It is observed when the MSS has several interfaces (especially if some of them without MAC addresses, like VPN). You must have administrative privileges on your computer to install the software. Click System Preferences , Accounts , and check Allow user to administer this computer .Try to review your network environment and active MSS plug-ins. Probably it would be better to disable some modified network for the moment of Mac software setup.

I have resolved it with help of community at mediasmart server dot net site and it turned out to be that running hamachi on the server at the time of authentication screwed it up. The following command-line (to be run in Terminal.app) tools might help you: nmblookup, arp, netstat. Also you can look though logs in Console.app for anything HP related. I simply disabled hamachi during authentication and it worked

In order to resolve your above issue, you need to check out the following link. It will help you to get rid of the above issue. I had Hamachi running to provide VPN capability. I stopped it and disabled it's network interface then everything started working.

I'm having the same thing where I installed the MediaSmart client and it shows as authenticated, but I cannot connect to anything. If you want you can check out the following link. If you recall, when your PC booted up, it broadcast its name, workgroup, and IP address out for everyone to see. The master browser recorded this information in its browse list and therefore has all the information necessary to turn names of systems on the network to IP addresses.
