Go to the Start menu->Control Panel->Network and Internet Connections->Network Connections. Right click on the troubled connection and select Properties from the pop-up menu. When menu appears select Client for Microsoft Networks from that menu and make the proper setting like : If it is not install then install it > Select 'Client for Microsoft Networks', then click OK > Make sure that 'Client for Microsoft Networks' is checked.

Check your network connection, all machines in network are won't allow you to connect because of XP's security/group policies problem.Try right-clicking My Computer and selecting Properties. Check on the Computer Name tab to make sure your new system is part of the same Workgroup as the other systems on your LAN.

    • To identify which layer is causing the problem
    • Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    • Under or pick a Control Panel icon, click Network Connections.
    • Click Network and Internet Connections.
    • If your network adapter does not appear in the Network Connections window, it has not been properly installed. Uninstall the driver and network adapter as described in Troubleshoot device driver problems. Then reinstall the network adapter according to the manufacturer's instructions or by following the instructions in Install a network adapter.
