Enhance signal strength of wifi

Hello, I have a little concern and I would like your opinion on the matter.

So, I connect to Internet via cable with a Linksys WRT54G router. When I turn on the pc, it detects the Wi-Fi to my router and it connects without problem, but when I look at the strength of the received signal, it is "low" or even "very low" because the wall is "barrier" to the signal. I thought adding the same router in this room to strengthen the signal, but I try, and it does not work. Do I need special handling to get there, or is it simply impossible to achieve?

If this is possible, it would be nice from you to me detailing the manipulation that I have to make, unless there is another way to proceed without adding a router?

I believe instead of changing the router, you can just change the wireless network card and become more powerful ......

I will sooner for one of these 2 solutions

1. A wifi repeater : LINKSYS Wireless 54G Transponder
   
2. A kit cpl : NETGEAR HDXB101 - packs of 2 adapters CPL CPL 200 Mbps Ethernet with 1 Port 10/100

Solution 1 allows you to keep the wifi, the 2 makes you go ethernet solution for the CPL. Thanks for your help.
