pls guide me to change processor

Hi All, i need your help to change Processor.

My current processor is Intel Core 2 Duo 2.20GHz and Motherboard is EG31M.

I try to change my processor to Intel Core 2 Quad 2.66GHz. I take out old processor and replace Core 2 Quad. After that, i turn-on my computer but windows hang and i cannot press keyboard too.

how should i solve that problem?
Does my motherboard EG31M support Intel Core 2 Quad?
Or what settings do i need to change to use Core 2 Quad?

    Please help me.

Check out whether you had inserted your processor properly. I think you also need to change your FSB speed. It should be 100MHz, somehow it might had reset to 66MHz. Your CPU is supposed to run at 5 x 100MHz (500MHz)...it is now running at 5 x 66MHz (333MHz). It seems that there are a few different models and revisions of this board that match that model number. Check your board for any identifying stickers, or perhaps an indication at boot time.

To change (upgrade) a computer processor, you must first know the type of motherboard that is installed in your machine. The first step to replace a CPU is to remove the heatsink. Make sure you have a flat bladed screwdriver which is a very good fit in the heatsink retaining clip, it requires quite a bit of force, and if it slips out, you can easily take a fatal chunk out of the motherboard. In order to upgrade your CPU you will need to know two things about your motherboard, its CPU socket and its maximum external clock rate ( FSB, Front Side Bus for AMD CPUs based on AMD64 architecture.
