After changing my PSU and have found a real good in the running of my pc (more than overheating or noise) , I want to try to improve a little. So, I wonder if I have anything to gain by changing the processor also.

    Change to what?
If for the games, I will change the graphics card rather than the processor as the AGP is not expensive .

If a processor change is made, it is not obliged to formatter. Restart the pc without any problems with the new processor in its Windows installation. Windows is more connected to the motherboard, which has several special drivers for proper operation while the processor, no driver, just a recognition of it by Windows that will do very well.

Since then the desire is to change the processor, there is not necessarily interested in that. You should check what you can save up on your motherboard!

A good little video card is an option, definitely. Or a small addition of RAM. The best is yet to set Windows to best to run in good conditions.

Instead of changing the processor, you could already start to optimize XP and its services. And see the impact on the operation of your machine.

    How to optimize XP

In addition, use CCleaner and Glary Utilities from time to time to clean the startup programs, temp files, fix the registry, etc, ...
