Thinkpad X61 laptop LCD screen issue

Just few months back i had bought a new Thinkpad X61 laptop. I had installed Windows Xp as my operating system. When i try to plugged in external monitor and everything shows up fine so its probably something with the lcd. But the problem is that when i try to narrow it down, whenever i move the screen around, if i get it in certain position the screen becomes normal again but if it shakes a little, it start fading white again. I am having a problem with getting my monitor to appear clear and steady like it use to. I get a lot of static if you will in the monitor now. Can any one tell me that how do i resolve Thinkpad X61 laptop LCD screen issue? Any one has any idea about it? Please help me out to resolve the above issue. Thanks.

Do you have a VGA out on the Laptop? I would test that out on a monitor, and make sure that its not the graphics card going out. If there is no obvious damage to the screen it could just be the back light which all LCD screens use but to change this you would have to dismantle the screen as well as removing it. If you get the same lines on a monitor, the its the graphics card thats causing the issue.

Graphic LCDs are notoriously non-standard and, even to the extent that they are becoming more standard, were horribly non-standard during the time at which most 386 and 486 laptops were made. Even if laptop manufacturers wanted to include good quality IPS or PVA/MVA screens on their machines as an option, they can't because all the companies which make LCD panels only make big ones with those technologies for HDTVs now. So the main problem here is that VGA cards have an analog output, and the LCD screens have a digital input.

With my no-brand LCD panel and a random LCD controller device that I wanted to talk to the VGA card, I was in for a few days worth of staring at a logic analyzer and hacking driver code. Sounds to me like you have a connection issue with the ribbon connector. I had a laptop that only displayed the desktop when you opened it a small bit, when you opened it all the way the screen went all white anyway it was out of warranty so I re-seated the connector onto the mainboard and it seemed to solve it.

A biometric screen prompting you to scan a fingerprint before the system will boot counts as a BIOS splash screen here. Reseating the video cable didn’t make any change and the problem was fixed after I replaced the LCD screen. If the screen lights up with anything, a graphic or text, it means that the basic display I/O system is functioning.

Go to premier.dell.com/support and put in the service tag number of the laptop. A visit to a PC technician would be my first port of call. If it's still under warranty they will replace it completely without you having to check anything. Any possible repair would involve hard to source parts and some expertise in dismantling and reassembling laptop components.
