Problem with the Cmos battery in Dell Inspiron 5150

    Hello,
I am having dell Inspiron 5150.I am facing severe problem on my laptop, sometime when i switch on my laptop i get a cursor flashing in the top left hand corner. There does not appear any dell screen or any other welcome screen and my fan working hard drive starts working then stops. Someone has advised me to remove cmos battery and replace after 15 minutes this MIGHT help to reset the bios settings. Can anyone tell me where the cmos battery is located on a Dell Inspiron 5150.

The CMOS battery is installed in the laptop and is the rechargeable battery, the BIOS store the basic computer information and it is powered by the CMOS power. Now put the CMOS battery out and discharge it for several minutes. Now again reinstall it into your PC ,at this time you can reset the BIOS configuration. I did this six months ago and it had worked for me so you also try it out .It might also work for you.

According to my knowledge you cannot replace the Battery on the Inspiron 5150.the battery is soldered on to the Main Board, if you take the C cover from it, the battery is located towards the front edge and we are able to only bit of it. If we want to remove then we have to remove the plastic Casing and if you are trying to remove the plastic casing then you may well damage the M/B.

A same kind of problem was also faced by me when i started my computer with the ipod connected to my laptop. Later i realize that it is due to the connected ipod in my laptop. I would suggest you to check the boot order and make sure that it is not looking at another storage device such as pen drive , cd-rom etc. If you are not getting any response , then you might need to change your hard drive.

I have tried out the solution which is given by you i.e i have removed the CMOS battery out of the laptop and .I discharged it for several minutes. After i had discharged the CMOS battery i again reinstalled it. After reinstalling it i again restarted my laptop. This time it worked for me and it has sorted out my problem. So i thank you all for giving me such a solution.
