    As the the drive is able to get detected and the only perspective is that it is not able to show up the drive icon in the system. It may be that the required system file is not able to allocated the drive properly to the system. It may be good and essential that you need to run an upgradation. You can choose the device manager and then update the driver for the required hardware. This will thus let your system to display the icon for the drive.

    Try to run a clean boot on your system this may lead to get the drive icon of the system to be displayed. To run a clean boot you need to follow the steps as follows:

    * Click on the start menu and then type msconfig on the search box menu.
    * Now hit enter.
    * Under the selective startup tab select the Hide all Microsoft services.
    * Disable the services.
    * Restart the system.

    It would be better if you try to install the compatibility tool for Windows vista or Xp. This would thus help you in making the device to get detected if it is caused due to the operating system that isn't supporting well. You may get to the conclusion that if the system is not supporting due to the features of Windows 7 been not very much compatible with the hardware. hence it should work for Windows Vista or Xp.
