Problem with Dell cerc SATA 1.5 6ch

My friend has a dell system which he want to sell out now. Now the problem here is with the cerc sata 1.5 6ch raid controller card. I am trying to install vista on the raid drive but getting continuous error on that. I thin if I can update the drive or upgrade the raid controller then the issue can be solved. What to do here. Can I get a complete reference guide which can help to understand the working of raid card and setup the hard drives.
