sad Gadgets not working in Windows 7 build 7000

    Hey Everyone,

I'm running Windows 7 build 7000 on my system. The problem is that it has no gadgets. When i try to turn on my gadgets or Window sidebar it gives me an error message stating that "the system is broken". I'm quite sure that i haven't removed it. Can any body tell me that why i'm having such problem on my pc? Does any body have any idea about this issue? Kindly suggest me the correct logical solution for the above issue. Any help on this would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Follow these steps to perform the hack:

    1. Close all gadgets on desktop.
    2. Take ownership and grant full control permissions for Administrators user group of the following files located in C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar folder:
    • settings.ini
    • sidebar.exe

    And inside the en-US Folder:
    • sbdrop.dll.mui
    • Sidebar.exe.mui

    3. Rename to backup the 4 files listed above.
    4. Download Win7-Sidebar-Fix.zip.
    5. Extract and copy the contents of the ZIP file to their corresponding folders in C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar folder, overwrite and replace existing files if applicable.
    6. Re-add gadgets to desktop.

Tip: There is better trick to disable UAC while allowing gadgets to continue working without replacing any files.

Run Windows 7 Desktop Gadgets with UAC Turned Off

Note: I haven’t studied the possible security implications of this tweak. You use it at your own risk!

    1. Click Start, type Regedit.exe and press ENTER

    2. Navigate to the following branch:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Sidebar \ Settings

    3. Create a new DWORD value named AllowElevatedProcess

    4. Double-click AllowElevatedProcess and set its Value data to 1

    5. Exit the Registry Editor.

The Windows 7 Sidebar and Gadgets do not work correctly if a user disables the User Account Control in Windows 7. There is however an easy way to make the gadgets and sidebar work again without having to replace system files (that was the way suggested in many forums).

All that needs to be done is to change one value of a parameter in the Windows 7 Registry to make the sidebar and gadgets work even with UAC disabled.

Open the Windows 7 Registry by pressing [Windows R], typing [regedit] and hitting [enter]. Now navigate to the Registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Sidebar\Setting and change the value of AllowElevatedProcess to 1.

Restart the computer or logout and login again to see if the changes work as intended. The Registry setting ensures that the gadgets and the sidebar are working in Windows 7 properly even if UAC is disabled.
