Cross Forest Trust - The domain controllers required to find the selected objects in the following domains are not available error

I have started a cross forest trust between the yard and wine forests in a lab. The yard forests has 2 domains, the yard.com forest root, and the dom1.com domain. I am able to share files between the domains in the yard forest properly and can also share files beween the wine forest and then yard.com domain. But if I am trying to grant permissions to a share in the wine.com forest to the non root domain in the yard.com forest (dom1.com), then the wine forest will not locate the domain controllers in the dom1.com domain. There are only 1 server each in both the domains. Also, there are 2 servers, both DCs and GCs in the dom1.com domain. I have checked the replication and it looks to be working throughout the yard forest. I am not able to find any error messages in the event logs. Can anyone tell me how to solve this problem? Thanks

It looks to tme like that domain and probably the other are not able to resolve the other domain DNS name. So to test it you can create a Conditional Forwarding between the DNS in both domains/forests. You need to ensure that each existing DNS can resolve any existing DNS in bother forests.

Can you tell me whether I need conditional forwarders for both the name domains and the _msdcs domains? I am knowing about that for the forest root domain_msdcs is listed as separate forward lookup zone but in the non forst root domain it is not. Thanks for the replies.

Acutally, the _msdcs zone is only used withint the same forest.

I dont think you need a differnet conditional forwarded fir _msdcs as its a child in the same namespace that you are already formwarding to and the server you forward to holds a copy of the zone so will answer. Incase the server you forward to doesnt hold a copy of that zone, then it has the necessary delegation the glue records so will still get you an answer.
