Most stable Messenger for Vista?

I am looking for an standard messenger solution for windows vista. We are a group of people. We all have laptops that has Windows Vista on it. Rightnow we are working on MSN Messenger. But it is a bit annoying with file and image transfer. We were using Yahoo before. It was actually making the system more slower. Which is the best messenger for Vista that can work properly without much problem and allows file sharing also. I am still working on MSN but I do not find it better.

Vista is having some problem with older version of Live Messenger. The only version which works fine on it is 8.1. While all older version are buggy. I am using this from few months and it looks to be working proper. MSN is enough for group chatting. While yahoo offers you more options with files sharing. But it is correct that it makes the system perform a bit slower. Try 8.1 version of MSN you can download that directly. Do not upgrade the existing one.

There are ample of light weight messenger that you can try. One of them is Pidgin. It supports various accounts. It is all in one messenger that also supports file sharing. Compare to MSN and Yahoo, Pidgin is more better in terms of reliability. There might be some low features but you can use it constantly on your desktop. While the best in terms of feature is Yahoo.
