unidentified network in vista
hi guys...
i'm new in using vista...
i have a problem in connecting to the internet...
usually (in xp), i just plug my ethernet cable modem, and then it connects to the internet...
but not in my new vista....
it says 'unidentified network'..
then i try to disable the network card, then re-enable it...
then the internet works properly...
but the problem always occurs everytime i turn on my computer...
it's annoying to disable and enable my network card before connect to the internet..
is it a kind of incompatibility issue in vista???
for info, my network card is realtek PCI-e family...
and here is my ipconfig /all

Re: unidentified network in vista
Click on the network icon at the bottom-right of the task bar. Now click on Network sharing settings and there in the network map, the path to the internet will be having a cross mark X. Now just click on the X mark and let it determine what problems you are facing... All the best!

I think you didn't noticed here something which is what the actual cause of your problem. Have you looked the configuration of "Default Gateway" in both the situation? Before disabling the network card, your default gateway was configured to "0.0.0.0" which is not accepted. And after disabling and enabling, it is changed to "192.168.1.1" which is accepted. So there should be some mistake in your network configuration which you need to correct in order to prevent such things to happen in the near future.

i've already tried to edit the registry as explained at that site...
it's still the same...
no changes at all...
what should i do then??
help me please, coz i don't understand about network at all:no:
Re: unidentified network in vista
i know the difference, it's about the default gateway...
but, maybe it's annoying to disable and enable it again everytime i log in to windows vista..
is there any idea to make the true network configuration fixed all the time?
coz, in my laptop which is xp SP3, it runs well (with the same modem and ISP), i never configure my xp's network config though, it's automatically..
help me guys..:crybaby:

Click Configure This Device Manually to open the router's home page (usually found at IP address 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1). With User Account Control (UAC) enabled in Windows Vista, just right-click “Command Prompt” (Start Menu->All Programs->Accessories) and select “Run as administrator” to open an elevated command prompt. If your router supports automatic configuration via a USB Flash drive, click Configure Wireless Settings for My Router and Save to USB Flash Drive instead. Inside of the Group Policy Object Editor, navigate the tree to Local Computer Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Network -> Link-Layer Topology Discovery.

Why don't you try to manually configure your computer? Just go to Network Connections, Local Area Connection. Here you will see "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)". Double click on it. Here you will have to set your IP Address, Subnet Mask and Gateway, as well as two DNS (primary and secondary). I know the above steps is not so perfect for Vista but this is what I usually do under XP. Just try a similar way in Vista. Configure it and see if this works.
