Capture Mpeg-2 from Sony Handycam

I have recently purchased Sony DCR-SR 45 HandyCam 30gig HD 40x Telephoto. When I am trying to import a movie into Windows Movie Maker its refusing, When i am trying to convert it to Windows Media Player using windows decoder, its not able to convert the file. Then I thought of using Sony PMB software to convert, I was able to convert, but the product is too basic. I am not able to use the result from PMB and I am not able to convert it to WMV, Can you please suggest some other way to resolve this problem.
