Getting error 800B0100 while installing Windows Updates KB974145 and KB978251

Any help will be greatly appreciated on this matter. Actually I attempted to install these "significant changes" on several occasions along with the same result - updates failed error code 800B0100. I downloaded and installed that KB974821 – and it tells me that installed it - similar problem. (Not sure if I'm supposed to do more along with KB974821 - I have to "execute" or is "install" certainly sufficient instructions could be clearer? I tried downloading and installing the updates manually - no luck - me various error messages such as "does not apply to your system" or "to a different hardware platform." I tried all this with my firewall / antivirus closed - the use of Trend Micro - and still no luck.

If you want to install the suggested updates on Windows Vista, and get error 800B0100, this provide the most ordinary answer to this trouble. The solution, in short, is to disable the firewall. If you're using McAfee Personal Firewall Plus, F-Secure Internet Security, Norton Internet Security or other provider of Firewall, refer to the respective support page for assistance in disabling it (temporarily). If you are using the Firewall built into Windows Vista, read on. Open the Control Panel and select Security
    • Select Enable or disable Windows Firewall.
    • Select Off (not recommended), click Apply, then OK.
    • Back at the Windows Update screen, click the Try Again button.
    • The discharge (s) and installation will start ...
    • And this time successful installation. If you need to restart, make sure you enable your firewall once you reboot your PC.
    • Although this answer works for most Vista Update errors, observe the Microsoft look for results for the 800B0100 error if it does not work.

I've been reading about this for a long time now. I have two Dell machines - a laptop Inspiron and Dimension 9150 server. My laptop updated to SP1 with no problems at all. The size however, has been a bit of a pig and I've seen the code 800B0100 for a while. I've tried almost every step I could find from many of the website. But nothing worked in my case. So if you guys have any suggestion then please help me.

What I did was fairly straightforward really, a bit more of a pain to obtain but resolve the difficulty FOR ME. I simply made an "in-place upgrade", i.e. re-install Vista and use the upgrade option. Then came the nightmare ... After reinstalling, I ran Windows Update and let nature take its course ... After about 60-10 changes and reboots, I finally offered Service Pack 1, which was finally able to download and install. I hope someone, somewhere finds this useful because I've seen that many of you out there struggling with it.

After you download the System Update, it runs simply once for the exploration of the inconsistency that might prevent future service operations. This scan characteristically takes less than 12 minutes to run. However, the tool may take much longer on some computers. The progress bar of Windows Update not updated at the time scanning, and progress looks to stop concerning 70% complete for a number of times. This behavior is predictable. The analysis is still functioning and you should not stop the update.

I have one solution for the same and I am sure that it will help you. So to resolve this problem, run the System Update Readiness Tool (Checksur.exe). To do this, go after these steps:
    1. First thing which you have to do is that you have to download and run the System Update Readiness tool. And this tool runs one time scan for inconsistency that might stop future servicing operations.
For more knowledge regarding how to download and run the tool Checksur.exe, tick the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
947821 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821) Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista
    2. Try to install updates again.
