sad setup task in project 2007, need help!!

Hello forum, new member here and I have a question that has been bothering me when creating project that I hope some here can assist...

I'm currently creating a project in PWA using MS Project 2007, now the task will extend across 3 weeks, the resource will be allocated 50% to the task, however the total amount of hours the task is going to take is 30 hours (Standard calendar)

Now if I make the task be the time is should be (3 weeks) the total amount of hours for the task go up dramatically, if I shorten the length of the task then I don't I loose the real date of when the task will be completed, which then creates an issue to link to another task....

Hope you can understand my dilemma......thank you!

When inserting a task among linked tasks, you can have a new task linked automatically or not link it at all.

    • To link the new task, click the task that you want the new task to precede, and then click New Task on the Insert menu.
      • Note If this doesn't work, on the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Schedule tab. Make sure that the Autolink inserted or moved tasks check box is selected.

    • To add the new task without linking it, click the task with which the new task will occur concurrently, and then drag to create the new task in a blank portion of the Network Diagram.

thanks for your reply, but the linking is not the issue.....is the length of the task versus the amount of hours it displayes.......but I try a couple of things and I think I got. Basically, to ensure the amount of hours remaing the same I just play with the % the resource is allocated.....
