Ms Excel 2010 beta crashes while previewing existing xls files ?

Hi every one I have got a desktop system with Intel Core 3I processor, 4GB of RAM and and a Seagate hard drive with 1TB of capacity. I recently upgraded my system with all these changes , prior to this I was working on a Pentium 4 processor, which I used for 5 years, then finally I got frustrated of it's unbearable slow performance. I also changed my operating system , first it was windows xp , now I use Windows 7. But the changes I made did not lowered my frustration , but increased it. Along with the Windows 7 I also installed MS Office 2010 Beta. All the office product work fine, but when I open a an existing Excel file and preview other xls file , the whole MS Excel crashes. It is really driving me crazy , can anyone help in fixing this.

Well in that case I will ask you to shut down your system after saving the necessary changes . Try to open and preview those files in the the safe mode and see if it works. If you do not know how to boot through the safe mode, restart the system , before it boots to windows normally press F8 key continuously for 4 to 5 times , you will see Advanced Boot option there, Select Safe Mode from the advanced boot options or you can also click on Start , then to all programs and go to Run. In Run type the command ' Excel /Safe, do not forget to put the space between the word Excel and the forward Slash.

You said you cannot preview any file while you open any Excel file, what do you mean by that ? I think you are talking about the print preview then you should have mentioned it quite clearly. If it is the print preview you are not getting, then I suggest you to check the print preview in some other application, I think printer might also be the issue, If the printer settings are made to default then change ti to some other setting that are visible and try to preview any excel file. See if it works and give your update.

Yes I was Talking about the printer preview, I apologize for using the short terms that lead to confusion. I am very thankful that you replied. I opened other files of word and power point and checked whether i could see the preview, but that error does not work in any of the other Office products, it persists in the MS Excel only. I also checked the printer settings which were set to default, and made the settings to some other option available and tried to open the excel file and see the preview but nothing happened and it still the same. Should I uninstall the Office 2010 and reinstall it again ? Please give your updates .

I think you should disable the Add ins and give it a try once again.

    • Click the Microsoft Office Button Button image, click Excel Options, and then click Add-Ins.
    • In the Add-ins box, identify the add-in that you want to enable or disable and note the Add-in type located in the Type column.
    • Select the Add-in type in the Manage box and then click Go.
    • Select or clear the check box for the Add-in that you want enable or disable and then click OK.

Add-ins of type Document Inspector are enabled using a different method. These add-ins are automatically enabled when you inspect the document for hidden metadata or personal information. To inspect your document, click the Microsoft Office Button Button image, click Prepare, and then click Inspect Document.
If disabling the add ins does not work please reinstate it as it is :
      • Click the Microsoft Office Button Button image, click Excel Options, and then click Add-Ins.
      • View the add-ins and application extensions that are categorized as follows:

      • Active Application Add-ins Lists the extensions that are registered and currently running in your Office program.
      • Inactive Application Add-ins Lists the add-ins that are present on your computer but are not currently loaded. For example, smart tags or XML Schemas are active only when the document that references them is open. Another example is the COM add-ins that are listed in the COM Add-ins dialog box. If the check box for a COM add-in is selected, the add-in is active. If the check box for a COM add-in is cleared, the add-in is inactive. To learn how to open the COM Add-in dialog box, see the section called Turn off or manage the installed add-ins.
      • Document Related Add-ins Lists template files that are referenced by currently open documents.
      • Disabled Application Add-ins Lists add-ins that were automatically disabled because they are causing Office programs to crash.
