Multiple Messenger services

I have had a recurring problem with too many Messenger services on my PC. Thought I had it resolved...but I guess not. A person with whom I connect "sees" various IM programs when trying to connect with me...so I want to get rid of everything except Windows Live Messenger 2009.

I believe I've removed Yahoo Messenger successfully.

However, Windows Messenger icon appears in my system tray...and won't let me
close it...let alone remove it from my PC.

Question: can someone, please, give me step-by-step instructions on how to dump Windows Messenger. I see nothing in "Add-Remove Programs" that looks like the obvious target.

U can remove window messenger icon by manage startup software with other interesting features like registry cleaner browser cleaner and registry defragment by using reginout it will helps u

To remove the Windows Live Messenger from your computer, follow the below method:

• Launch the Start Menu using your cursor.
• Select the “Run…” option.
• In the prompted box, enter “RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove”.
• Press the Enter button on your keyboard, or click “OK.”
• When you are prompted and asked to restart your computer, click “Yes.”

Those are instructions to remove the program I want to keep!!!!

I don't want to remove Windows LIve Messenger. I want to remove Windows Messenber!

Ok, so you mean to say that you just want to remove the icon of Windows Messenger? If so, then click at start button and then goto Run and Type "msconfig" (without the quotes) in the run box. Click on the Start Up tab in the window that will open. On the left side you 'll see a list of Startup Items. Search for one that says "msmsgs". Uncheck the box next to msmsgs, then click on the OK buttion. You'll have to restart your computer, but you shouldn't have Messenger starting up when the computer restarts.

My desire to to remove Windows Messenger from my PC....not just remove the icon. In the end, I want to have only Windows Live Messenger on my PC. So, I need instructions on how to remove Windows Messenger.

Is there any reason I would want to keep both programs on my PC? The way I see it, it's just causing confusion.

I apologize for apparently not effectively communicating my issues.

People are trying to IM with me and are apparently seeing several IM programs on my PC. They are sending a message to one, I am opening a different one...and I don't get their message. I can't locate, open or remove the service they are connected to.

It appears I have the following IM programs on my PC: Windows Live Messenger 2009, Windows Messenger 4.7. There may be more, I'm not sure.

Anyway, my goal is to eliminate completely from my PC, all IM programs except for Windows Live Messenger 2009.

Is this not a logical plan? And, how do I do this? Step by step instructions, please!

One more thing, please....

The friend who is trying to connect and is connecting to the "wrong" IM service, suggests that the problem might have something to do with an IM service also running on my HTC EVO android phone. I'm not even aware I have such a service on my phone...I've looked and don't see anything running.

This all is so confusing and difficult for the non-expert. Sigh...

Basically, it should appear in the Add/Remove program list but as i can guess its not appearing in your case, you can remove it from the "Add/Remove Windows Components" that is located on the left side of the "Add/Remove program" windows. Click on the "Add/Remove Windows Components" , search for the Windows Messenger 4.7 entry by scrolling down. Once you locate it, just check mark the box nest to this entry and reboot your system.

Also, you can delete it from the command prompt. Press Win Key + R, or click Start than Run. Now type the following in the box and press Enter:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

You will get the Notification message that Windows Messenger 4.7 has been removed from your system.

This both steps are simple and sure way to remove Windows Messenger from your system. Try out and do reply the result.
