Why is Office trying to install to the Q drive?

I am struggling to install Microsoft Office 2010 on my system. As we all know that this software application is the best for working on documents. But I am getting an annoying problem, I do not why this is happening to me. I am getting an error message that this product must be installed to Q. You must ensure that Q is unused and then try installing this thing again. I want to know why is Office trying to install to the Q drive?

Re: Why is Office trying to install to the Q drive?

If you are getting this error then this means that you are trying to install this Office 2010 through the use of Click to Run and the Q is the drive letter you are trying to install may this drive is already in used by another process by your computer. For the installation of office 2010 click to run needs to install on this drive. If you cannot make this Q: drive available then you will not be able to install this software on your computer system.

I am not sure that this will help you or not but you can try this for resolving the problem. First thing you need to do is to find out which process is using this Q: drive on your computer system. If you can find out that thing or the hardware that is using Q: drive then you have to refer manufacturer’s documentation or the support channel for moving that thing off the Q: drive. After doing this you can install this office 2010 software.

I have better solution than this one, you need to go to the site from where you have bought this office 2010 and there you have sign in with your LiveID. After that you have to click on “My Account” after that you can have access to office downloads. After that you have to click on the download for the version that you have bought. After that you have to click on the Advanced option link that is given below the Download now button. There you can get the version of office that does not require Q: drive. So you can easily install this software on your system.

I am also facing similar problem but it is because of the mistake that I have done. I am having a Lenovo notebook that is having Q: for the system. On the bases of tips that I have found on other website, I have reassigned the system drive to S: and then installed Microsoft office 2010 on my system but changing the settings of system drive is causing a number of problem on my system. So thing I need to what to do for solving this issue, either I have to uninstall this Microsoft office 2010 and then install the office in the way you have explained in the above reply, or there is any other way to solve the problem.

Actually thing is that you have changed the system drive that is causing lot of problem. For solving this you need to uninstall office 2010 click to run and then download the software as I have explained in the above reply. Because for that you do not need alter the setting of your system drive. If you have any other problem related this then let me know about it and I will try to resolve that issue as soon as possible.

Re: Why is Office trying to install to the Q drive?

Thanks for the reply I have uninstalled Microsoft office 2010 from my system and then downloaded the Microsoft office 2010 from the location that you have specified and tried to install that on my system and that working fine but my system was giving me problem because I have changed the location of system file. I think I need to format the system and then again install everything that is required. Well anyway thanks for your suggestion.
