Intel GMA 500 in Linux support

Recently, I have dual booted my pc with Windows XP and Linux Ubuntu. I was wondering that is there is any chipset support for the Intel GMA 500 in some of the pacakges called xf86-x11-drv-intel? I have searched for it online but cannot find any relevant solution for it. Can anyone please tell me that does it supports or not? Thanks for any information.

You just need to go to the version of you distribution for Linux drivers. There are too many versions of Linux for Intel to write drivers for and that is the reason why they are all supported at the main distro level. In general, many Linux* distributions already include IntelĀ® graphics drivers. Get more information from here - http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-010512.htm

I think that you will have to look at the Ubuntu community for the Linux version of the driver. There are many expertise for Ubuntu Linux on GMA 500 which you can have a look at yourself from here. You can try to download the version 4.41.2 or 4.41.6 for the GMA 500, it seems that there is to be a whole new driver architecture on the works, but until then it would be nice to use the older one.

If you can install the the poulsbo-driver-3d meta package from the ppa repository, it will definitely work with the Intel GMA 500. You can download it from here. Note that, many users have complained cannot find Intel GMA500 Linux Graphic Driver or the Driver Source is outdated, so it actually looks like you will need all these packages:

    # psb-kernel-src
    # libdrm
    # libva
    # psb-firmware
    # xorg-xserver-video-psb
    # xpsb
    # libgl1-mesa-dri-psb

Re: Intel GMA 500 in Linux support

Did anybody try out the new Iegd 10.3beta drivers? It is available on the Moblin rpm packages or from Iegd main page, the packaged download link is here and the here. Also the Moblin 2.1 IVI final Project with IEGD works pretty well and performances are better than 10.2.2 release. However, as noted in the Ubuntu forums, the current GMA 500 drivers are incompatible with the current version of Xorg. So it simply means that, if you purchased a netbook with a GMA 500 in it, you will be unable to install a new version of your distribution.
