Computer freezes when Utorrent is started

I am facing a very weird problem with uTorrent which is installed on the computer. The problem which I am facing is, whenever I start the uTorrent on the computer, the performance of the computer degrades and finally the whole system crashes. I am not a computer savvy and hence I am unable to diagnose the problem. So if anybody here knows how to solve then please share some information which might help in solving the issue.

By looking at the problem, it seems that the problem is with the operating system of the computer. The operating system on the computer can get corrupt if any files of the operating system are missing on the system. Try and repair the operating system installed on the computer. Insert the installation disk of the operating system and select the repair option. Let the procedure complete and then check if the problem is solved.

For any application to run properly on the computer, some RAM memory has to be allocated. If the RAM memory gets depleted on the computer, the system will freeze. Increase the RAM memory and then check the performance of the computer. Hopefully increasing the RAM memory will solve the problem.

Start the Windows in safe mode and then check the performance of the computer. Remove any application which was installed recently on the computer and restart the computer in normal mode. In the normal mode, start the uTorrent application and see if the system freezes. Hopefully the computer will not freeze after removal of recent applications.

The problem could be with the uTorrent application itself. Sometimes the installer file for the application when downloaded get corrupt. If the application is installed using such a corrupt application then the application will not work at all. Uninstall the uTorrent from the computer and remove all the files/keys from the computer. Download a new installer file for the application and install it on the computer. Check if the problem is solved.

Virus's like to associate with the files of the application which are used frequently. If such a situation occurs then whenever the application is started, it will create duplicated copies of the process and degrade the performance of the computer. Use some security tool and remove all the files which are infected. After cleaning the computer of the virus's, check the performance.

Actually reinstalling the application really solved the problem. Now the computer does not freeze when uTorrent is started. I think the uTorrent application which was installed on the computer was infected with some kind of virus which was freezing the system. Now after reinstalling the application on the computer, the system does not freeze at all.

I too have this problem. At first I BitComet connection with a high speed cable videotron, it worked fine. Now, I moved to a place where they use high speed internet videotron but with a wireless router. Since then, when I download with BitComet, my computer freezes after a few minutes and I have to reset. I tried with uTorrent: same thing. And the problem only occurs when I download. If the BitTorrent client is open but that all downloads are stopped, everything is fine.

Is it possible that a port problem can cause this kind of bug? When I make the test port with uTorrent, sometimes it works, sometimes it does not work. Also, I find it odd that it uses by default port 10619 when I saw on your site that usually the ports 6881-6889 but sometimes the ports 6969 and 7000 are used.

    Operating system: Windows XP
    Network card: D-Link AirPlus G DWL-G510 Wireless PCI Card # 2
    Router: Unknown for now
